Shawnee Volunteer Fire Co. - New Member
Currently Shawnee Volunteer Fire CO. has two (2) different levels of membership in which to join. They Are:
To become an active member of this company, a person must be at least eighteen (18) years of age, of good moral character, a citizen of the United States and live within five (5) driving miles of the assigned Fire District of this company for at least six (6) months. Prior to membership, all candidates must satisfy an arson background check.
Once a member he/she shall complete the Firefighter 1 course (for interior firefighters) or Scene Support Operations course (for exterior firefighters) as prescribed by the State of New York, and a certified C.P.R. for the Professional Rescuer course or equivalent within two (2) years of his/her acceptance into the company.
To remain a member in good standing, he/she must work thirteen (13) company functions, nine (9) of which must be bingo, bingo setup / cleanup, or bell jar; receive twelve (12) drill credits, six (6) of which must be company drill credits; attend ten percent (10%) of all calls ; and attend four (4) monthly meetings, 1 per quarter, from January 1st to December 31st.
To become a social member, a person must be eighteen (18) years of age, of good moral character, living in or outside this fire community who desires the fellowship and social functions of this company. As a social member you will have a voice within the organization but be unable to vote.
Responsibilities of a social member are, he/she must work thirteen (13) company functions, nine (9) of which must be bingo, bingo setup / cleanup, or bell jar.
